Irene V. Eckerle, 100, Jasper

Irene V. Eckerle, 100, of Jasper, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February, 6, 2017, at Hamilton Trace Senior Living Community in Fishers. She was a lifelong Jasper resident before relocating to Fishers in 2013 to be closer to her children.

Irene was born in Jasper, IN, on September 22, 1916, to George and Rose (Buechlein) Wilz. On September 4, 1943, she married Arnold L. Eckerle in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on January 1, 1996.

Irene graduated from Jasper High School in 1934 and from Lockyear Business College. She was employed in the office of the Hoosier Desk Company following graduation. During World War II, Irene worked in military bases for the Civil Service at various locations to which her husband was assigned. These include bases in Colorado (Hdqs. Second Air Force, Colorado Springs), California (Hospital Red Cross, Camp Roberts) and Oklahoma (Combined Arms, Ft. Sill). She retired from the 10th Street School culinary department in 1978.

Irene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and their St. Ann’s Society. She was also a member of the VFW Post #673 Auxiliary.

She is survived by three children, Janice (Robert) Kaye of Noblesville, Arlene (Scott) McDonald of Fishers, and Daniel (Deloris) Eckerle of Franklin, Tenn.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dr. John (Margaret) Eckerle of Louisville; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death beside her husband Arnold, was one sister, Cornelia Beeman and two brothers, John W. Wilz and Ambrose Wilz.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene V. Eckerle will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, IN.
