Huntingburg police put down injured coyote

Friday morning, Huntingburg police were forced to shoot an injured coyote that had been seen wandering in the city for a few days.
According to Assistant Police Chief Ronnie Bowman, the department had received several reports of sightings. He said the animal’s back legs appeared to be injured and speculated it may have been hit by a vehicle.
Officers had tried to capture the animal but it was able to elude them until Friday when they received a call that it had been spotted on Jackson Street. Officers were able to corner the coyote behind a business Friday and put it down.
According to Bowman, Indiana Department of Natural Resources informed the department that a coyote in the city was considered a nuisance animal and could be shot.

I think they could have called someone from a wildlife preservation to save this animal. The shooting was uncalled for. The poor thing doesn’t look like a nuisance at all in this picture.
