Huntingburg Parks Board approves Foundation and Chamber plan for League Stadium Movie Night
It seemed the evening would be a simply one for the Huntingburg Parks Board however from the first speaker things were complicated. Nick Stevens, Executive Director to the Huntingburg Chamber, addressed the board concerning the use of League Stadium for showing A League of Their Own over Labor Day Weekend.

The Huntingburg Foundation will facilitate the event and the Chamber will host it and Stevens was there to inform the board of Foundation’s intents and seek approval for the plan. Board member Mike Fulkerson asked if all references to the political parties had been removed from the event. Stevens stated that anyone was allowed to sponsor and funds were facilitated through donations made to the Foundation from members in the community.
“Anyone can be sponsors of the event,” stated Stevens. “Anything above and beyond the expenses of the event will go to the League Stadium Endowment.”
The event will be free to the public and the Huntingburg Girls Softball will be handling the refreshments.
This was approved by the Board.
Then it was noted by the board that someone in the city had made the commitment of $500 for the city’s portion of the event. Stevens explained that the commitment was made by the city to the Foundation. Stevens also stated that he does not personally know what has been funded as that is being handled by the Foundation but the $500 was slated for the Stadium Endowment.
Under review the board decided to withhold the commitment of $500 for the event unless the money was needed for expenses beyond the initial $2000 funded for the movie.
“I don’t see the need to give money to the endowment when Brad (Ward) stood here in the spring to present us with a check from that very fund,” Joyce Fleck stated. She then explained that if the money is needed for the event, the Foundation should come to the board at the next meeting with an invoice and request the money for those expenses.”
Fleck continued by asking who in the city made the commitment for the $500. Stevens alluded to the fact that information was available from the Foundation and he did not know who made the commitment.
The Board then discussed the option to purchase the equipment for the future use of movies in League Stadium. The rental of the equipment is approximately $2000 with the movie rights, but the board broached the idea of purchasing the equipment to have movies at the stadium in the future.
“If we had something like that then we could have movies on the nights the Bombers aren’t playing,” Fleck explained. “Then the Stadium is used more often. Unless the cost of the equipment is astronomical, but 2 grand per movie is pretty expensive.”

This article was changed to reflect that Nick Stevens did not state that both political parties donated to the event. This was implied by a Park Board member during the questioning.
