Huntingburg man ejected from truck, LifeFlighted

A Huntingburg man was thrown from the truck he was driving when it crashed on U.S. 231 just north of the Huntingburg Airport Thursday afternoon.

Dubois County deputies responded to the crash at 4:12 p.m. and determined Jason A. Thacker, of Pinewood Court, was northbound in a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab when for an unknown reason it ran off the side of the road. The truck continued about 75 yards until it cross a private drive and struck a mailbox before continuing off the road and eventually rolling over before stopping.

Thacker was ejected from the truck and came to rest at the edge of a cornfield just north of where the truck stopped. He complained of back pain and was taken by helicopter from the scene to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

It is unknown whether or not Thacker was wearing his seatbelt at the time the crash, according to deputies.

A passenger in the truck, Nathan Bromm, of 350S, Huntingburg, was able to exit the truck on his own. He refused medical treatment at the scene but deputies observed a cut on his cheek.

The crash is still under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Saint Henry First Responders, Memorial EMS, Huntingburg Police Department, Indiana State Police, Saint Mary’s Life Flight and KARS towing service.

  1. Thank God and well wishes to Mr Thacker – these ejections often end up much worse – but with all due respect and not anything directed at him personally – accident victims have nothing to do with it – I gotta ask once more: What in tarnation is going on with another $20,000-plus helicopter flight back and forth from-to Evansville for, this time, back pain, when there’s one of the best hospitals in the country right up the road in Jasper??? Maybe this has something to do with why the county is in such financial distress – no wonder. Plus no one seems to want to explain things about why we waste such expensive resources on broken legs, back pain and a litany of other non-life-threatening or similar situations, so looks even more likely.
