Huntingburg issues a boil advisory for several areas

water_faucet_499A boil advisory is effective immediately today, October 25, 2016, on US 231 between Sunset and Maple Streets; all of Maple Street and Oak Street between U.S. 231 and Maple Streets.

Customers will be notified once the boil advisory has been lifted. During a boil advisory, the following precautions should be taken:

  • Boil water vigorously for 3 minutes prior to use;
  • do not use ice from household ice maker;
  • disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least 1 minute in clean tap water that contains 1 teaspoonful of unscented household bleach per gallon of water; and
  • let water cool before drinking.

Possible discolored water during the course of the boil advisory may likely be anticipated. Customers are advised to use caution when doing laundry during this time, although water used for hand washing or bathing does not generally require boiling. It is recommended to flush cold water lines before beginning laundry.

  1. Minor detail (not) but, like, WHY??? WHAT’S GOING ON that’s causing the boil order – ?

    1. The original press notice did not list the reason. However, at the council meeting, the street superintendent confirmed there was a water main break.
