Huntingburg burglaries may be connected to several from this spring
The Huntingburg Police Department is requesting the public’s help in the investigation of several recent burglaries.
On Wednesday the department received reports of five burglaries. The suspects broke into vehicles and garages and have taken a pocketknife, loose change, a .22 caliber Ruger handgun, iPhone, and iPod among other items. Usually the suspects are entering unlocked vehicles parked in unlocked garages, but a screen window was pried open in this string of burglaries.
Police suspect this recent string of burglaries is connected to burglaries that occurred in the city this spring and could be connected to several burglaries that occurred west of the city this spring as well. Two semi-automatic handguns were taken in those burglaries.
The burglaries reported this week occurred along the 100 block of North Chestnut Street, the 600 block of South Park Drive and the 100 block of East First Avenue.
The police department is reminding residents to lock garages, homes and vehicles and contact the police immediately if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood
Anyone who may have information about any of the burglaries is asked to call Huntingburg police at 683-4111.

How about the police let us know that they are taking any extra steps to stop the problem. If it is getting this bad and these people are stealing firearms i would hope they are increasing patrols or something. I for one still see more "small talk" at gas stations then I see patrolling. Lets step it up HPD and catch these thieves.
