HNB Terminal Corp hosts Advanced Aerodynamics Tutorial at Huntingburg Airport

HNB plans on invigorating the community and introducing a new generation to aviation with classes and events. Last night was an "Arial Dog Fight" webinar.

The HNB Terminal Corporation hosted a Webinar on “The Aerodynamics of Basic Aerobatic Flight” last night at the “Old Terminal Building” at Huntingburg Airport. The Webinar was attended by 13 people, mostly local pilots and aviation enthusiasts.

While much of the presentation was at a very high technical level (this reporter needed an air-sickness bag just from looking at the free body diagrams and graphs that were presented), the basic thrust was that pilots can greatly increase their understanding of aviation aerodynamics by getting involved with aerobatic training and competition. This thesis was amply demonstrated and supported in the hour-long presentation produced by the Experimental Aircraft Association.

“The HNB Terminal Corp is a not-for-profit organization that has a three-fold mission,” explained President Jon Lowrey. “We’re revitalizing the “Old Terminal Building” which hadn’t been getting a lot of use, we’re providing enrichment programs for pilots and other supporters of general aviation, and we’re trying to reach out to the youth in our community and introduce them to the excitement of aviation as a potential career or hobby.”

HNB Terminal Corp was recently awarded a grant from a privately funded foundation to make improvements to the Terminal Building. They used some of these funds to purchase a large, high definition multimedia screen, which was used for tonight’s Webinar with great success. They are leasing the Terminal Building from the Dubois County Airport Authority, and are paying for all the utilities required for year-around operations from other private funding sources. The Terminal Building serves as the main hub for the corporation’s activities.

  1. This effort has lead to the monthly Air Board meetings use of the old terminal building for its meetings. The set-up allows for more room for the public and better sound quality in being able to hear the discussions during the meetings. The airport manager and engineer used the multi-media TV to show graphs of the expansion project for everybody to see while being discussed. Before the public was kind of in the dark on what they were talking about without a visual. The HNB Terminal Corporation is opening another window of education and entertainment to the public.
