Hilbert A. “Snowball” Rasche, 91, of Dubois, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick.

Snowball was born in Dubois, Indiana, on September 26, 1928, to Anthony and Clara (McGregor) Rasche. He married Mary (Amos) Rasche on September 16, 1950. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2010. 

He was the first mate on the Mississippi Valley Barge Line and a lifelong poultry farmer. He had a passion for God and sharing the Gospel with others. He enjoyed his horses, mules, farming, and spending time with his family.   

He is survived by his three daughters, Frances (James) Floyd of Villa Hills, Ky., Judy (Louie) Douglas of Dubois, and Clara (Mark) House of Eckerty; six sons, Curt (Mary Lou) Hall of Plainfield, John (Sandy) Hall of Jasper, Bob (Elaine) Fromme of Clarksville, Martin “Buddy” Rasche of St. Anthony, Tim (Donna) Rasche of Dubois, and George (Marilyn) Rasche of Dubois; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. 

Preceding him in death besides his wife are four sisters; Rosina Beck, Lorena Hackman, Verona Terwiske, Doretha Mundy, three brothers; Bernard Rasche, Thomas Rasche, and Leroy Rasche, one daughter-in-law, Martina Rasche. 

Private funeral services for Hilbert A. “Snowball” Rasche will be held at the Becher Kluesner Funeral Home North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow at the Haysville Community Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a favorite charity.

  2. I did not know Hilbert all that well, but knew of him while I was teaching at NE. Dubois. Your family has my sincere condolences.
