Health Dept warning: Expect rise in cases with more testing

The Dubois County Health Department issued a notice warning the public to be aware that with the increased testing and testing sites coming available in the county, the number of cases in the county could rise sharply in the coming weeks.

As of Friday, May 1 at 8 a.m., Dubois County had 23 positive tests for COVID-19. The Health Department reported that 74 percent of those cases are out of isolation and have self-reported they are feeling well.

A weekly update of the county positive cases will be shared every Friday.

Governor Holcomb will speak later today to give an update regarding the expiring Stay-At-Home Executive Order. While new details of Indiana State Department of Health recommendations have not yet been released, the Dubois County Health Department is urging residents to continue to make our community safe and protect our most vulnerable people: stay home if you are sick, perform good hand washing, practice social distancing, and wear a cloth face covering when around others.

“The Dubois County Health Department and I want to extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to all of our healthcare professionals who are risking their safety and well-being to continue to help those who are in need,” said Dr. Ted Waflart, Dubois County Health Officer. “Also, all the essential workers who are working to keep our county going during this uncertain and trying time. We thank you all! This battle is not over, but every day we are reminded what a great community we live in and know that we will overcome this challenge.”

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today announced that 815 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 18,630 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 1,062 Hoosiers have been confirmed to have died of COVID-19, an increase of 55 over the previous day following the removal of one duplication. Another 113 probable deaths have been reported. Probable deaths are those for which a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause based on X-rays, scans and other clinical symptoms but for which no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 99,639 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 94,998 on Thursday.

  1. As didn’t see the actual notice from the health dept, not sure if the “warning” (word) was in THEIR text or was added by this media. The sole operative word seen in another report was “notice.” Either way, shame on the use of “warning” – totally inappropriate/unnecessary text/connotation of more knee-jerk, fear-mongering fodder. Rather, such results from additional testing are simply common sense and to be expected, if not welcomed, in tracking/revealing the nature/spread of the virus and which can only be positive in the big-picture effort to better understand and control/fight it.

  2. According to the dictionary, the definition of “warning” is:
“a statement or event that indicates a possible or impending danger, problem, or other unpleasant situation.”

They used “warning”perfectly. You just don’t know what a warning is.:-)

  3. Hi this is Mr. Chief Meteorologist out of Evansville, we are now under a “Tornado Notice” as four F5 tornadoes have leveled an entire sub-division.
