   2. The schools have e-learning, which is what we’re going to do. The real problem isn’t schools, it’s the parents getting enough money to pay their bills and keep the kids home.

      We need a 6 week total shutdown, massive testing, and the money to pay for it. But that takes leadership — and we have none, locally, at the state, or in the white house.

      Republicans have ruined this county. And now they’re ruing the country.

         It wasn’t the Republicans, the Democrats, the right, or the left that ruined this County or this Country. It was the irresponsible decision’s of everyone. We all are responsible in some way.

         1. We didn’t test during that 3 months, or contact trace, and that makes all the difference in how effective a shutdown is, as that tells you who needs to be quarantined. That was the failure of leadership. And it continues to be a failure.

            And this county, and it’s people will suffer for it.

      Are we really expecting 80+ more Deaths?

      1. The case mortality rate for this disease is somewhere between 1-3%. That’s going to be between 480 and 1400 deaths in Dubois county alone.

         I say “going to be” because unless there’s a vaccine, This. Will. Happen. The question is if this happens all at once (a disaster for everyone as the hospitals are overwhelmed) or if it takes a couple years. Which will only be a personal tragedy for people directly effected.

         Either-way, we’re getting tragedy.

         1. It is said we could have a vaccine by 2021 second quarter. So, should we expect 60-175 deaths a month until then?
            At one point Fauci said we could expect 10,000 deaths a week.

         2. Its more like a case fatality rate of 0.3%. To assume that everybody in the county will catch the disease is not accurate. More like 6% a year.

            The flu has a case fatality rate of 0.1% for some perspective and killed about 80,000 in the US last year.

2. 97,000 children diagnosed within the last two weeks of July… I would like to see the action plan for sanitation of the lockers, hallways, cafeterias etc. That’s going to take more than one person doing it full time. Starting at one end and back again after finished. Temp checks are a joke too.

      Why don’t we replicate our national/State response to other pandemics and crises: Spanish flu, WWI, TB, Scarlet fever, Smallpox, measles, mumps, various Cholera outbreaks, WWII, Asian flu, Hong Kong flu, bird flu, SARS, H3N2 flu, herpes, AIDS, H1N1, regular flu (20-60,000 deaths per season; 2017-18 est. 46-95,000 deaths)—oh yes, lest I forget, Polio.
      Mass public quarantines, economic shutdowns, masks, goggles, school closings, mass sports and event cancellations for periods of 6 months to 1 year solved these problems; or so I seem to remember from my public school education.

3. Let’s all forget what the real problem here is, and it’s the idiots in this county that refuse to wear masks to keep others safe from them. Sure you may not think you have it, so you don’t wear a mask and continue to infect all those places you’ve been and all those people you’ve been in contact with.

   It’s a freaking mask, get over it. You wear it to protect yourself. You wear it to protect others from you if you have it, knowingly or not. Be an adult and GET OVER YOURSELF.

   It’s these same adults crying about having to wear a mask in public places, that also wonder why our children grow up to be entitled idiots. You’re that reason. Just because you don’t want to wear it because you think they look stupid, doesn’t give you the right to go on about your business, your way, and infect everyone else who doesn’t want it.

4. So most don’t believe the CDC now when it comes to sending kids back to school, but you drink the CDC kool-aid on masks? You can’t pick and choose your panic topics.

5. Not everyone is wearing a mask and social distancing! You can drive down streets in Dubois County and see people having parties where mask and social distancing are not being practiced. People are attending weddings where mask and social distancing are not being practiced. We are still having sporting events, travel softball and baseball tournaments. Very few participants are wearing mask or practicing social distancing. Are parents of children attending parties and other functions insuring they are wearing mask or social distancing. People are still going on vacations to Florida and not quarantining for 2 weeks when they return. Is everyone, who has been notified of being potential exposed to a person who had the Coronavirus gone into quarantine and notifying their friends? SO ARE WE REALLY TAKING THINGS SERIOUSLY?? If you look at numbers for surrounding counties it is evident we are not.
   Shutting everything down for 6 weeks or 3 months is not the answer. That would create severe impact local businesses. Local businesses are still struggling to recover from the previous shutdown. So take responsibility for you and your family wearing a mask and social distancing.

6. Shame on everyone in this county! Shame! Did we ever consider that maybe our cases are high because of the high number of factories and employment in this area? People still have to work. I love how that’s conveniently left out of all the posts about seeing people NOT WEARING MASKS! Masks are simply not that effective. Some studies have said your typical cloth mask is 3% effective. So you work with coworkers all day, wear a mask when needed, for 8-10 hours, but it’s those damn people walking down the street without a mask!! It definitely wasn’t the peaceful protests though. Scientists and doctors in California have said it doesn’t spread so long as your peacefully protesting.

   All of you people complaining nonstop, what have you PERSONALLY done to boost your immune system? Have you eaten better? Have you increased your Vitamin B and D intake? Have you exercised more frequently? You all want to sit there and complain, while drinking your sodas, eating your crap food, and sitting around watching TV. Guess what, this is a virus. Your body and immune system fights viruses. Boost your immune system. Boost your cardiovascular system. Do things to help YOURSELF. Quit pointing the finger at others and expecting THEM to be your savior. Sadly, I’ve never really heard our CDC or any other health branch even mention boosting your immune system or taking steps to help your own body fight this virus.

   For all of you waiting on a vaccine? Reports are saying probably 50% effective. Maybe a little better. You want to put your faith in THAT? Take steps to improve your own body. Do research. Boost your immune system.

7. Since someone felt the need to impersonate me, say things I’ve never said, and the DBFP somehow allowed it, I’m just going to reiterate – please care about your community and wear a mask.

   Also, I’m done posting here. There is zero discussion of any value that goes on here. It was mistake to assume this backwater hellhole that is Dubois County would produce people capable of doing that. So whoever wants to keep using my name as their own personal strawman – go right ahead you pathetic moron.

8. Derrick Jones my point was during the stay at home order nobody stayed home. If a 6 week massive shut down were ordered I think someone would put unnecessary exceptions in place. Which would lead once again to people not taking the shut down serious.

   I suspect because younger people in particular are not wearing masks or maintaining social distance, and they are catching Covid-19 and then spreading it to their parents or other family members and contacts. A significant percentage of younger people tend to be asymptomatic and not even realize that they are carriers.
