So let’s put the kids back in school!!!!!
Numbers may get a lot worse after schools open. Was told that schools could open safely if covid-19 was under control in the community. It doesn’t look like it’s under control in dubois county.
Give Grandma and Grandpa a hug. They’re likely not making it past this year.
Yes – indeed, let’s do – many reasons of overall health, education and development for it, and none/zero reasons of any real consequence not to.
Actually, Dubois County should be congratulated. Per the Indiana Covid website Dubois County cases
have declined from 124 the week of 7/17-7/23 to 71 for the current week ending 8/6. The 7 day moving average number of cases has declined 44%, from 18 per day to just 10. Instead of all gloom and doom
can’t we agree to celebrate positives when they happen??
State positivity rate is a whopping 19%. Dubois County is at 17.5% “down” from 24.5%, according to most recent available numbers from last week. So yeah, I guess that’s heading in the right direction but definitely nothing to be proud of. Certainly not anywhere close to the positivity rate needed, 5% or lower, for at least 14 days, to open schools. Heck, even Trump says schools in hot spots should consider delayed openings. If I still had school aged kids they would not be going back with such high positivity rates. Hang on everyone. It’s going to get ugly.
I’ve read some opinions that indicate the lives of the elderly and those with underlying health issues were expendable. I believe the thought was these groups were more susceptible to getting the virus than the younger and healthier generation.
Those thoughts were wrong!
So what does happen if a child gives his or her Grandparents COVID-19? What happens if the Grandparents were the guardians?
Why would you celebrate 71 positive COVID-19 cases in a week or 10 positive cases a day? That’s nothing to celebrate it’s something to pray about!
We had 18 new cases today. What are you talking about. Numbers are still high.
It’s not so much the number of positive cases as it is the 7-day positivity rate. We’re still hovering around 17-18%, and that’s not good. Ideally, infection rate should be below 10% if spread is being relatively well-controlled. Best-case scenario is under 5%. State of Indiana as a whole is averaging 7.5%. Here in Dubois County we are doing better than we were a couple of weeks ago at 24-25% but we still have room for improvement–particularly since the decision has been made to re-open our schools (what can possibly go wrong?).
Why are the positive rates so high for this county, perhaps it is because we are only testing symptomatic people??? If more wide spread testing was being conducted then the percentages would be more useful to support all these claims. Do you really think DC is over twice the state average for positive cases per test? The reality is to watch moving trends, but then to realize that to have meaningful data you need to have enough of it to determine real meanings. Right now this county doesn’t test enough of the general population to support any claims from the general public.
