Health Dept reports 14th COVID-19 case

The Dubois County Health Department confirmed another positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been identified. This brings the total of 14 positive cases of COVID-19 in Dubois County residents.

“We are working closely with Indiana State Department of Health and local officials to ensure that contacts of the patient are identified and monitored,” the department stated in a press release. “Anyone who may have an exposure risk has been or is being notified about potential exposures so that appropriate infection control procedures can be followed.”

The health department has not commented on inquiries regarding the number of recoveries from the disease.

The recommendations have not changed: STAY HOME.  Maintain social distancing and perform good hand hygiene. Clean and sanitize all “high touch” surfaces. Educate yourself by listening to reliable sources and authorities. Take care of your friends and neighbors by checking in on them via phone or emails. #INthistogether

  1. I am so sorry to hear this. It is horrible that some are still coming down with this stuff. I am grateful that we have not had more outbreaks. I know I am not the only one around here that is anxious to get back to work. I will continue to Pray that this all goes away sooner and not later. Blessings.

  2. It is a travesty that Masterbrand is still operating as an essential business. They are putting everyone in their employee at risk including factory employees’ families and the entire Dubois County area by continuing to stay open. Kitchen cabinets are not essential products during a State of Emergency Pandemic! I am praying for all the factory workers and their families. Masterbrand needs to be proactive instead of reactive at this time to help save lives and to help STOP the spread of Covid-19 in Dubois County.

    1. What about Kimball? Is their plant in Santa Claus still open? You know the one for National Office Furniture? Kimball is no more essential than MB despite their website having a picture of stools and a reclining chair. lol.

    2. All factories in the county are back in operation, I’m not sure what you expect to happen everybody stay home and the virus magically disappear, only way going going to get a hand on this virus has heard immunity.. staying home does absolutely nothing out of the destroy the economy and prolong the inevitable..

        1. That’s because nobody is buying recliners; no retail stores are open to selling them…… Jasper Engines is down to four days a week because sales….. supply and demand.. an example of what this is doing to the economy

    3. Masterbrand is essential for the financial well being of the executives that are likely not mixing it up with the regular workers, but still do indeed have to get that next new Lincoln.

  3. Agree 100% office personal and supervisors seem like there the ones they care about why doesn’t employees get treated the same BS yes we want off have to sign paper to not get paid again BS…..

  4. I agree that office personnel is working from home but not supervisors. Supervisors still have to report to work just like floor associates. Also they are in close contact with their team members.

  5. Re Masterbrand, I agree they should close. So, I have emailed and called the governors office, emailed Erin Houchin’s office, who referred me to call 877-820-0890 and/or email covidresponse@iedc.in.gov which I did. I emailed the health dept, called a Masterbrand union rep and Masterbrand HR, talked to county and city council reps, and filed a complaint specific to covid 19 with state OSHA.

I hope I am not alone in communicating with our leaders because they won’t listen to just me and they won’t read the comments section of this paper or your Facebook page. Please take the next step and reach out to your leaders or the press. Please!

Bob, yes this is going to be a long road and eventually herd immunity will need to be reached, but we were already short of nurses in the healthcare system before this and if too many of them get sick at once or decide they’re tired of being treated like cattle(..herd immunity?….I think I’m funny there!)…well then we’re all in trouble. I’m in healthcare and work directly with nurses and people in fragile health. My family member works at Masterbrand. So…there’s the risk!

I would not normally say this, but in this case, the governor was right in making a decision for the community and not leaving it up to individuals. The same should apply to individuals who own a business. They should not be allowed to make their own decision to put the community at risk by subverting the intent of the “essential business “.

FYI, The current Masterbrand president is Richard David Banyard, who from what I can find on-line, makes about $3 million/yr. and does not appear to live in Indiana. Lets also communicate our concerns to him. Fortune Brands website has a contact us link at the bottom of the page. I doubt local supervisors have much say. They’re probably like most employees, trying to keep their job and position (and health insurance). And that neutered version of a union can’t protect the employees either.

    1. You realize you’re talking about people’s livelihoods, how they feed the family. This is not about Executives & CEO ( I applaud them for their courage to remain open and continue in business) this is about the hundreds of people they employ Memorial Hospital is currently a ghost town there certainly not overtaxed!!!! Nobody is forcing those people to go to work. It’s voluntary They can file for unemployment and get government handouts; however they choose to earn a living….. out of curiosity how do you earn a living? how do you feed your family? I’m confident and pray that sounded Minds will prevail you will not be successful in your efforts…. what gives you the right or government the right to dictate over other people and their rights to travel freely & conduct business.. this is the United States of America not Cuba, China, Iran or Afghanistan..

FYI….. I’m a poor boy from a small community That does his best to provide for his family and I’m very thankful for the job I have!!! And thankful that I’ve been able to continue to go to work and good Lord willing I will in the future!!

      1. Bob,
Memorial Hospital might be a ghost town now, but that can change quickly. They have only 111 beds, of which 26 are icu beds. If Covid hits Dubois County hard there won’t be nearly enough beds. Maybe it won’t happen; maybe it will. Remember in the beginning, “it will just magically go away”, “it’s only 10 cases” blah blah blah.
