Health Dept reports 11th COVID-19 case

Saturday, the Dubois County Health Department reported the 11th COVID-19 case in the county.

“We are working closely with Indiana State Department of Health and local officials to ensure that contacts of the patient are identified and monitored,” said the department in the press release. “Anyone who may have an exposure risk has been notified about potential exposures so that appropriate infection control procedures can be followed. The patient is in isolation.”

As the situation of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to change rapidly, the health department stated their top priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our community.

STAY HOME. Practice social distancing and good hand hygiene. #INthistogether

  1. These are just the cases we know about. It’s reasonable to assume that there are many more people “out there” who haven’t been tested—either because they assume they’re dealing with allergies, cold, flu, etc.—or because they are asymptomatic but carrying the virus.

I also wonder how many people in our area have died from Covid-19 but the cause has not been determined.

Hopefully people in Dubois County are paying close attention to these numbers, as well as the number of cases across the US which, as of today, are **503,594** with 18,860 deaths so far—the most of any other country in the world. Some “news” sources continue to downplay these tallies, and they’re doing people a terrible disservice by not making everyone aware of just how serious and widespread this pandemic has become.

    1. In fact we DO know of “some” others, if not how many, et al, that haven’t yet been accounted for in the local numbers – those being the MHHCC workers reported as testing positive several days ago, but nary another mention, update, nor as included/identified in the totals based on updated positive test reports thus far. It’s as if it didn’t happen or those workers simply disappeared – or maybe they didn’t count for some reason or were (hopefully) forgotten by all the little people out there like you/me who don’t need to know and/or won’t ask any more questions. So, the 11 as of today, 4/11, are actually more than.

  2. Is this larest person someone who goes to some of these stores like Rural King where the parking lot is packed as full as is can be? Or to Home Depot where that’s got more people than ever?
I drive all over the county for my work (which is most definately essential) and see people out and about everywhere. I really do not think people are able to grasp just how this virus works or the potential to cause sickness to themselves or their familes. As many people as I see out at the same stores at the same time, with many of them not wearing masks or gloves is insane. It is a disaster waiting to happen in our area. So far we have been pretty lucky around here but people are not heading warnings and aren’t being as safe as they could be.

  3. usa leads the world in all the bad covid categories. why? Donald John Trump. That’s why.

    1. Are you really that dumb? we have more people being tested. Most of the statics coming out of China are incorrect. Simple math, more people tested= more positive ACCURATE tests reported=more ACCURATE deaths reported. It is not our presidents fault. I do not care if you are Republican or Democrat, it is not a partisan thing.

      1. Actually, despite the ramp-up of Covid-19 testing, the US still lags behind many other countries in terms of tests administered **per million** people — which is a much more reliable way to look at the numbers vs. total tests given.

By comparison as of April 6, 2020, approximate numbers were [as reported by John Hopkins University, Our World Data, etc.]:
United States – 5,355 tests per million
South Korea – 9,006 tests per million
Spain – 7,593 tests per million
Canada – 8,767 tests per million
Germany – 10,962 tests per million
Italy – 11,436 per tests million

US lags only behind the UK, which as of April 6 was tracking 2,880 tests administered per million people.

Perhaps those who live in glass houses (or rely on Fox News as their primary source of information) should not throw stones.

      2. Rob.
“Statics” the branch of mechanics concerned with bodies at rest and forces in equilibrium.

I guess you meant “statistics”. I wish you were smarter.

and it is very political. you voted for a terrible person. Donald John Trump is a terrible person and so is anyone who voted for him. Congratulations. We have a major divide in this county. Those who like trump and the smarter people. I am looking forward to the battle. Sorry you are on the losing side.

    2. I thank God every day that Donald John Trump was elected. I shudder at the thought of one of the socialist alternatives. Remember, it was President Trump who banned travel from China at the end of January and was called a racist for doing so. It was also Democratic leaders who were going out for Chinese new year celebrations well after that who kept saying it was safe to do so.
Now, the democrats and MSM try to alter reality and say he was the one saying it was safe and he, not them were saying it was nothing to worry about.
Thankfully we’ll have him as our president to guide us through the next 4.5 years as well.

        1. The fact is that what President Trump actually said was that this was going to be the oppositions (msm, democrats, people like you) newest hoax, not that the virus was a hoax. He along with health experts the world over was being told that it was not transmissible from person to person at that time.
And, you’re the only one here who is calling anyone dumb or a bad person. Sorry to see people putting down someone whom they don’t even know. And you equate who I voted for president, with my intelligence (I must say you’re correct but not in the way you see it). That shows your level of intelligence and intolerance.
And by the way, what is this battle you plan to have? Are you part of anti-fa with plans to cause trouble with those who hold differing political views? Just be careful who you pick your battle with. Talk like that does nothing to advance discourse among us Americans.

          1. Also md j:
You said:”be careful with who you pick your battles with.”
Is that a threat from you to me? Just curious.

          2. “He along with health experts the world over was being told that it was not transmissible from person to person at that time.”

You have made this up. Mostly because if there was no person – to – person transmission, It wouldn’t be classified as a virus! That’s not

This is also a lie in general because the severity was discussed as a threat by U.S intelligence as early as November 2019. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/intelligence-report-warned-coronavirus-crisis-early-november-sources/story?id=70031273

Nothing was done. The Chinese and European travel bans were one step behind as the virus had already appeared elsewhere by the time the bans took place. It was one step behind.

  4. How many of the 11 know cases in Dubois County have recovered? I would like to see this stat published as well,if possible.

    1. It’s most certainly possible – but the question is, whether local authorities will be transparent enough to inform/update folks. MHHCC won’t even come clean with the number nor any further info. of the “some” of their workers who they reported as testing positive last week, and the “some” numbers have not been added to the health department’s totals thus far, best I can figure.

  5. I haven’t seen this reported in either the Free Press or Herald:

ODON — The Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon is reporting 2 residents and 5 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. — WITZ

    1. The battle I am speaking of is the election in November. You know the one where our votes will cancel each other out. And let’s just say that’s why Cheeto meant when he said “hoax”. What about when he said he didn’t want to count the sick because that would make “his” numbers go up? What kind of leader says that?

Oh and btw now I hear the food production is at risk and a major pork maker in Dakota is shut down. Are you tired of winning yet? Are you a doctor? It says md .

      1. Since it will not let me reply to your other remark to me, so I will answer you now. No, I don’t threaten people, I am pointing out that it was YOU who was calling people names because you disagree with them. And, it was YOU saying there was a battle to come and how it was “Trumps people vs the smart ones” was it not?
I was on here speaking my thoughts on how the spread of the virus was not being taken seriously. I was not calling people stupid for voting for Bernie or Hillary. I don’t see the need for hatred to be involved in this situation we find our country in right now. Like I said, leave the politics out of it and focus on getting through it.
        Thank you.

  6. MD J, there is no “altering the reality” that despite dire warnings from respected researchers and disease experts, and increasing number of cases being reported in the US, President Trump repeatedly assured Americans that the growing pandemic was no big deal:

Jan. 30 – “We have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment — five. And those people are all recuperating successfully.”
    —–
Jan. 31 – “…we pretty much shut it down coming in from China. We have a tremendous relationship with China, which is a very positive thing. Getting along with China, getting along with Russia, getting along with these countries.”
    —–
Feb. 10 – “Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”
    —–
Feb. 19 – “I think the numbers are going to get progressively better as we go along.”
    —–
Feb. 23 – “We had 12, at one point. And now they’ve gotten very much better. Many of them are fully recovered.”
    —–
Feb. 26 – “We’re going down, not up. We’re going very substantially down, not up.”
    —–
Feb. 27 – “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”
    —–
Feb. 29 – “[A vaccine will be available] very quickly…very rapidly.”
    —–
Mar. 2 – “We’re talking about a much smaller range of deaths than from the flu.”
    —–
Mar. 4 – “It’s very mild. I’m not concerned at all.”
    —–
Mar. 6 – “Anybody that wants a test can get a test.” [When in fact hospitals were reporting severe testing shortages in hot spots all over the country]
    —–
Mar. 7 – “It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

Another 4.5 years, MD J? With a staggering 560,402 confirmed cases of Covid-19 cases now in the US and 22,105 deaths (and growing), we’ll be lucky to survive the next 4 1/2 months if Trump continues to “guide” us as he has done thus far.

  7. People are either void of their common senses, minus brains altogether or outright evil – likely a combination of all three – to think that from simple but varied and contradictory opinions, warnings, and/or discussions, etc. in various forms, timing plus from various sources, but ALL lacking legitimate confirmation, consensus and details, et al, would be enough to take such drastic actions as they claim should have been made (sooner). You don’t literally knee-jerk and close down/isolate a free nation and nearly 350-million people of the U.S.A. to the current extent(s) solely on then-still-emerging and conflicting information somewhere between “it might” or “could” or “it won’t” or “not likely” without a much better consensus for knowing more about what “it” is all about – how legitimate and viral as likely from human-human, et al, etc. Anyone who says otherwise is either blowing their anti-Trump smoke you-know-where, a “fake-news” follower and/or a fear-mongering, knee-jerking Monday-morning QB wannabe. In fact, the actions taken were about as timely and prudent as could possibly and presently be expected under such circumstances unprecedented in our lifetime, all things considered – things many (of you) people clearly know nothing about considering. And still, bad as it seems and is relative to the more infectious variety and respiratory impact on certain health/mortality demographics – this hasn’t and likely won’t reach the numbers of a typical flu season.

    1. Maybe it won’t reach the deaths of the flu. But because of the shut down. When will people stop comparing covid to the flu?! At least you didn’t bring up automobile deaths.

    2. Kudos to anyone who can make it through your comments without getting lost in the et al, etc, forward slashes, em dashes, quotations, parentheses, and run-on sentences. I used to visit this site just to get a kick out of your comments, but unfortunately I can’t swim my way through them very well any more. Just have to get my kicks elsewhere I suppose.

  8. hey cheeto supporters (especially the guy on here who thanks god everyday we get to have cheeto as the leader).

Did you hear that cheeto re-tweeted a tweet about someone saying he should fire Dr. Fauci? See Fauci said that lives could have been saved had the United States reacted sooner to the virus. This kind of truthful information is not something cheeto wants to be said. cheeto knows there will be a backlash if he fires Dr. Fauci. So he’s is basically threatening the nations best expert on infectious disease. Let’s hope Dr. Fauci keeps his job.
