Gail S. Cartwright, 61, Celestine, passed away at 1:58 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Gail was born on April 20, 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware to Walter and Joan (Drischler) Steinbauer. She married Jack Cartwright on February 18, 1982.

She previously taught art for the Southwest Dubois Elementary Schools. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Cartwright of Celestine; one daughter, Rachel Cartwright of Washington; two sons, Ely Cartwright and his wife Lauren of Durango, Colo. and Sam Cartwright and his fiancé Sendy Mohamad of Las Vegas, Nev.; one granddaughter, Aria Cartwright, at home in Washington; mother, Joan Steinbauer of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Joy Steinbauer of Akron, Ohio; two brothers, Brad Steinbauer of Las Angeles, Cali. and Mat Steinbauer and his wife Yuki Toyota of Phoenix, Ariz.

Preceding her in death is her father Walter Steinbauer.

Funeral services for Gail S. Cartwright will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow at a later date. Ely Cartwright will officiate.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Friday.

  1. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of my friend Gail. She directed the play “Annie” that I was in a few years back. We have had many ‘heart to heart’ talks and she was a wise counselor. Saddened by this loss, but grateful to have had the privilege of calling her Friend!
