Frieda W. Bellner Messmer, 91, Jasper

Frieda W.  Bellner Messmer, 91, of Jasper, passed away peacefully in the presence of family at 4:53 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Frieda was born in Celestine, Indiana, on April 13, 1929, to Basil and Frances (Schnell) Welp. She had two marriages. Her first marriage was to Daniel E. Bellner on October 16, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1991. Her second marriage was to Peter Messmer on September 20, 1997. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2010. 

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the D of I, St. Anne’s Society, VFW Auxiliary, and the Alpha Grandmothers Club. In her younger years, she was employed by General Electric and Beck’s Restaurant. Later, she became a waitress at the Holiday Inn and was an Avon sales representative for over 37 years. She was a vendor at the Huntingburg and Jasper Farmer’s Markets where she sold her homemade jellies and vegetables. She was an avid gardener and well known for her blackberries. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her family. 

She is survived by one son, Kenny Bellner; five daughters, Brenda (Ivan T.) Clark, Sandy (Jim) Wigand, Jane (Allen) Vogler, Marla (Drew) Englert, and Connie Bellner, all of Jasper; eight grandchildren, Brian, Todd, and Kyle Wigand, Kelli Mehringer, Aaron and Ross Vogler, Dane and Elliot Englert; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Voegerl and Martha Lange, one brother, Herbert Welp. 

Preceding her in death are one son, Daniel Ray Bellner and one grandson, Adam Bellner, two brothers, Al and Cletus Welp. 

Funeral Services for Frieda W. Bellner Messmer will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. 

A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. The St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 11:45 a.m. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
