First Covid-19 death reported in Dubois County
The Dubois County Health Department announced the first death of a Dubois County resident from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of our first resident of Dubois County to novel coronavirus (COVID-19). It is tragic whenever there is a loss of life. This is not the kind of news we ever want to announce. This serves as an unfortunate reminder to all the community about the importance to do all we can in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help protect our most vulnerable friends and neighbors,” explained Dr. Ted Waflart, Dubois County Health Officer, in a press release Monday afternoon. “The threat of this virus is real. We all have the ability to make a difference and we all have the responsibility to keep each other safe.”
The health department stated the individual did have underlying medical conditions.
According to the health department, no further information about the patient will be released due to privacy laws.
“All of us at the Dubois County Health Department mourn this death and extend our prayers and sympathies to the patient’s family and friends,” said Dr. Waflart.
The health department reminds the public that the best way to protect yourself and the rest of our community is to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, avoid close contact with people who are sick, stay home when you’re sick, cover your cough or sneeze and to clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. They also say that it is very important to wear a cloth face mask when out in public and continue to social distancing even when you wear a cloth face mask.

So sorry for this families loss. It saddened me when I go out and see employees of businesses that deal with the public not wearing masks. It seems like everyone has really eased up on safety measures. We have many people in our community with underlying health conditions. Not everyone has the ability to be able to stay home. We need to be considerate of others and not just think about ourselves.
You can’t go out in public without seeing several people without masks, it’s not just employees.
I believe everyone should be wearing a face mask. I have difficulty breathing when I wear mine due to a pulmonary condition, but I wear it!
I pull it down, take a few deep breaths, and pull it back up, it helps.
I’m being responsible. If I can wear one I don’t understand why so many people refuse to wear one.
I agree! I was at a gas station where several people were waiting in line. I was the only one who wore a mask. A lot of people are thinking because businesses have opened up, everything is back to normal. When actually we’ve only just begun with this virus. I too hate wearing a mask, but I go home to two beautiful kids that need me and for that reason, it’s worth it!
Thanks a lot Communist China.
We have nothing to fear if we stay close to the Rock of Ages.
