Fireworks regulations and safety notice issued
Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang issued information regarding the safe and proper use of fireworks this 4th of July.
Chief Hochgesang asks residents to be respectful and courteous of their neighbors by following the guidelines the State of Indiana has set for fireworks and to remember to set a good example for your neighborhood by cleaning up all debris left behind after discharging fireworks, adding, “fireworks users are responsible for where fireworks are set off, where they go and the mess they leave behind.”
The chief reminds citizens of state laws pertaining to the use of fireworks:
Fireworks may be used:
- Only on the user’s property
- On the property of someone who has consent to their use on that property
- At a special discharge location
Consumer fireworks may only be used as follows:
- June 29 – July 3 and July 5-9: 9:00 a.m. to two hours past sunset
- July 4: 9:00 a.m. to midnight

What’s with the 9:00am time? Who’s gonna be using fireworks in the morning during the day when you can’t see them, and hearing them is only gonna wake/shake up the neighborhood by disturbing the peace? Get them launchers out of back yards in Huntingburg – the projectiles can’t be controlled and end up landing in other yards, roofs, etc – someone is gonna get hurt one way or another. Hear that, Fire Chiefs??? If you’re so BIG on safety, projectile fireworks ought to be prohibited in the city limits – bad over in the southwest (not too far from where the current and former chiefs live). Scares the life out of older folks and sets off alarms, dogs and tensions…got no business being allowed in town save for the special stadium show.
And also. Get those kids off my lawn!!
