Farmer fatally injured in tractor fall

An elderly farmer was fatally injured after falling from a tractor Tuesday afternoon.

According to deputies, the sheriff’s department responded to the 911 call at about 12:53 p.m. for the incident that occurred on the 3600E block of Schnellville Road about 4 miles east of Jasper.

Jerome Knies, 85, of 2221 N Steinbottom Road, Jasper, was identified as the deceased. According to police, he had been operating a 1991 Ford/New Holland tractor in a field about 100 yards south of Schnellville Road when he fell from the equipment and was fatally injured.

Celestine First Responders, Memorial EMS, and the Dubois County Coroner also responded to the scene.
