Elaine “Lani” Cook, 73, of Jasper, passed away at 8:37 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, in the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

Elaine was born in Huntingburg on June 7, 1946, to Joseph and Doris (Koehler) Goodness. She married Robert “Bob” Cook on December 19, 1970, in the Huntingburg United Methodist Church in Huntingburg.

Elaine was a 1964 graduate of Jasper High School, where she played flute in the band. She worked as a dental assistant, and she also worked at Kimball Electronics and Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and a former member of Tri Kappa and the Memorial Hospital Auxilary. She enjoyed reading and watching her game shows. 

Lani was a loving wife and devoted mother, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed spending wintertime in Florida at Siesta Key with family and friends. 

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert “Bob” Cook of Jasper; one daughter, Courtney (Mike) Cooney of Westfield, Ind.; one son, Kyle (Brooke) Cook of Ireland, Ind.; five grandchildren, Nolan and A.J. Cooney, and Sophie, Finley, and James Cook; two brothers, Grayson (Diane) Goodness and Greg (Debra) Goodness, both of Jasper.

 Funeral services for Elaine Cook will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial at a later date. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and two hours before the service from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
