Dubois County Solid Waste District Board appoints Interim Director
Jasper — The Dubois County Solid Waste Board met Tuesday morning to appoint an interim director to take over for Lee Kraft, Jr., who passed away on Monday.
Board President Greg Kendall called the meeting to order at 7:30 and talked about their sole purpose for the meeting and then expressed his condolences to the Kraft family.
Kendall said that Kraft had been in the hospital last week with an infection but was home when he passed away on Monday. It is unclear on the exact cause of his death.
Kendall said that he spoke with Assistant Director Bill Pennington who told Kendall that he could handle the responsibilities of the position on a temporary basis.
Kendall asked Board member and County Commissioner Randy Fleck if the Dubois County Highway Department could supply some help from one of their employees until a new Director is in place. Fleck and Board member Wanda Beck from the Highway Department said that they would check with Steve Berg and find out if one of the subs could fill in on an as-needed basis.
The motion was made to appoint Pennington as Interim Director and was passed unanimously by the Board.
The Board will advertise for the position to find the next Director.

With all respect, it seems that as the late director’s hiring process was fairly recent – he was hired in January, I believe – there should be other applications or resumes on file that are still active, and that those candidates should be considered and interviewed first, before embarking on another lengthy, time-consuming advertising process all over again.
