The Dubois County Leadership Academy has issued a call for 2012 applicants. In its second year, the Leadership Academy is searching for emerging leaders in Dubois County businesses, corporations, and schools. There are no age requirements.

The Leadership Academy, the first of its kind in Dubois County, will meet six times (four-hour sessions) at various locations across Dubois County (two times in Jasper, two times in Huntingburg, and two times in Ferdinand) from late March through late July. Class topics include leadership essentials, problem solving, government and public service, communications, and religious and civic leadership. The Academy will culminate with a graduation ceremony and presentation of capstone projects.
“The Dubois County Leadership Academy deserves the support of every employer who wants to encourage employees to grow and contribute to their communities,” said Dr. Alan Johnson, Dean Vincennes University, Jasper Campus. “The participants plumb their own abilities and collaborate with others to develop professional networks and sustainable initiatives. We have seen benefits at our institution as a result of the first Academy class’ work.”
Participation in the Dubois County Leadership Academy requires “buy in” from the participant’s place of employment, as meeting times, for the most part, will be either in the morning or afternoon during business hours. If chosen as a 2012 Academy participant, a $100 fee will be due at the first meeting (check made payable to the Town of Ferdinand). Applications may be submitted to Marc Steczyk at msteczyk@ferdinandindiana.org or postal mailed to the Town of Ferdinand, Attention: Marc Steczyk, 2065 Main Street, P.O. Box 7, Ferdinand, Indiana 47532.
Applications can be found online at www.ferdinandindiana.org and must be submitted by Friday, March 2.
The Dubois County Leadership Academy is a county-wide initiative sponsored by the Leadership Pillars of the Ferdinand and Jasper HomeTown Competitiveness initiatives, the City of Huntingburg, and the Huntingburg Community Foundation.

I'm a bit confused between the Emerging Leaders and the DC Leadership Academy, although Mayor Seitz is right-on with his assessment in the concept of a leadership academy and the investment in human resources as the top priority.
As I recall, there is an age limit of 45 for the Emerging Leaders movement – but there is no such age limit (thankfully) for Leadership Academy applicants/participants??? What is the thought behind each of these insofar as age limit/no age limit?
In my opinion, there should be no age limit for either! Understand we must prepare for the future and younger translates to longer, but don't be too quick to compromise quality for quantity. Why can't someone in their 50s or 60s be as much of an emerging leader as someone in their 30s or 40s? Isn't there any merit to the reasons why we have established age discrimination laws – that it's the job performed and not the (age of) the person performing it?
