Dubois County Health Dept reports 25 confirmed cases of COVID-19

Monday, the Dubois County Health Department reported there is a total of 25 positive novel coronavirus (COVID-19) tests among Dubois County residents.

Phase 2 of Governor Eric Holcomb’s plan to reopen Indiana begins May 4.  Please refer to backontrack.in.gov for complete information.

Our county government does have the authority to impose stricter restrictions, the health department stated. Presently, the guidance provided in the Back on Track Indiana plan is appropriate for reopening Dubois County at this time.

The state’s as well as the county’s reopening will be continuously reevaluated based on the number of cases and hospitalizations and the health care system’s capacity.  State officials may re-impose certain restrictions if cases spike in particular areas.

The key to advancing to each phase is everyone adhering to the recommended health safety guidelines laid out within the directive by the Governor’s office.

Continue to practice physical distancing, perform good hygiene, and wear a cloth face covering in public when around others.

  1. Could be wrong – may have misunderstood it – and/or maybe Indiana is just different than other states – but that local governments (counties, cities) can’t impose any more strict restrictions than the state, goes against everything I’ve heard. Example: if the county or Jasper and/or Huntingburg didn’t want to loosen things up as quickly as the fed’s plan or the state’s plan…they wanted to keep things closed another week or two, maybe also keep shelter/stay at home orders in place…they have the authority to do so. To me that is the same as to “impose stricter restrictions.” Thought the way it was explained when all this was gearing up was going to be state by state and local by local within states, as directed by those authorities. Maybe that changed or didn’t hear it right (happens at my age).
