Dubois County Covid-19 cases up to 118

As of May 17, at 8 a.m., Dubois County Health Department confirmed that 33 more positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been identified.  This brings the total to 118 positive cases of COVID-19 in Dubois County residents.

The number of positive cases from COVID-19 have progressively increased in the past week in Dubois County.  With more testing, the numbers will continue to increase.

Thirty individuals have self-reported they are recovered and are out of isolation. Two residents have died.

“We know that increased testing means the number of positive cases will increase. This spike in positive cases has been expected especially due to the large amount of testing that has been done in the last few days.  But along with that, we are also seeing further spread of COVID-19 throughoutour county,” said Dr. Ted Waflart, Dubois County Health Officer. “We can slow the spread of COVID-19, but everyone must take personal responsibility now and follow the prevention guidance. Wear a cloth face covering when in public, maintain social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and stay home if you are feeling ill.”

  1. The CDC has asked one simple thing of all of us, and that is for us to wear a face covering in public. The point of a face covering is not to protect you from others; it’s to protect others from YOU. Any number of us could be walking around with this highly contagious Covid-19 virus as a pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic carrier. Wearing a mask, in addition to practicing social distancing, can help shield others from our cough or sneeze, and from aerosol emission that lingers in the environment after we speak.

At a time when we continue to see the number of cases increasing in our community, I’m stunned to see so many people still not wearing a mask. To me, it says, “Sure, I could have the deadly virus, but I really don’t care if I spread it to you.” To potentially put others at risk just because you think a face mask is uncomfortable or silly-looking, or because “nobody can tell me what to do,” is not just discourteous, it’s the height of selfishness.

How about this: If you don’t care enough to help protect your fellow shoppers, co-workers, neighbors, or friends by the simple act of wearing a face covering, at least think of the healthcare workers who are putting their lives at risk every single time they come in contact with yet another coronavirus case. 118 of them here so far; likely many more in the days and weeks to come.

    Wear a mask.

  2. I hear ya I’m a homehealth worker doing my part up and beyond it angers me to see ignorance of people.

  3. I think stores, gas stations, food chains should make the rule.. NO MASK, DO NOT ENTER! However, I’ve been to a lot of places where I’m wearing a mask and the employees aren’t wearing one. I realize they’re hot, uncomfortable, and make it hard to breathe. But, I’ll take that any day over what some of these people in hospitals are going through!
