Dubois County cases increase to six

Sunday, the Dubois County Health Department confirmed two more COVID-19 cases in Dubois County increasing the number to six.

“We are working closely with ISDH and local officials to ensure that contacts of the patients are identified and monitored,” the department stated in a press release. “Anyone who may have an exposure risk has been or is being notified about potential exposures so that appropriate infection control procedures can be followed. Patients are both in isolation.”

“We must continue to take this pandemic very seriously and absolutely follow instructions given by federal, state, and local officials. The only defense we have is to follow all orders: STAY HOME. Continue to practice social distancing and good hand hygiene.”

Thank you to everyone who is doing their best and all the frontline workers who are out there keeping us safe,” said Dr. Ted Waflart, Dubois County Health Officer.  #INthistogether #StayHome

  1. I work in health care, have a question, is it safe, to have to wear same mask, for 3 weeks are more.

    1. Am no longer in healthcare but used to be, but from all have heard and read about this, would say most generally – no. However, may/could depend on how MUCH worn, the material, and if washable/washed regularly. There’s no hard/firm answer that fits all masks and circumstances. If mask still looks good/functional – not coming apart or otherwise, etc – after washings, then maybe, and better than nothing if holding up and used properly.

  2. I don’t understand why people cant follow instructions with the stay home order. I live in a county road and the traffic has been busier now with the order in place. People aren’t doing what is asked of them to do by not staying home if they don’t have to go out.. In my opinion anyone that goes out without getting essentials or things that is a need , should be fined . No wonder kids are the way they are they don’t do what’s asked of them and think they don’t have to, for the fact the parents are the same way.. This covid 19 isnt worth taking chances with. Thanks to all of the First Responders and healthcare workers for all you do.
    God Bless you all.

    1. Agree. I ventured out to the store on Friday (wearing both gloves and a home-made mask), and was surprised to see so many other shoppers there — many of whom were not paying any attention to where they were in proximity to other shoppers.

There were no wipes for the carts, although there was a hand sanitizer dispenser, and I only spotted one non-deli store worker wearing gloves. The check-out person and baggers both acted like it was business as usual, handing me bags and getting close to me to put bags in my cart.

Dubois County is just now starting to see cases of Covid-19. From here, the numbers will only increase as they have in towns across the U.S. and the world. We MUST take these precautions seriously and stop taking unnecessary risks where our own health and the health of others are concerned.

      1. This is really a life or death situation. Why is it so few of us take it seriously. Some carry on, life as usual. Then will they expect others to take care of them if the catch it through their own negligence?

    2. Are the cops supposed to stop everyone and ask where they are going? I don’t know how you would fine anyone.

  3. I live in Davis Country IN and work in Dubois Co and we are told we have to go back to work in a furniture factory if we don’t go they will not pay out unemployment to us. So how can we do the stay at home order and is that Legal for them to do that?

    1. I don’t see how they can disregard what the state has put in place to protect the people. Sounds to me like your workplace is more interested in the almighty dollar and disregards human life which is sad and pathetic.. They should have to pay unemployment because with out their employees they wouldn’t have a business. Any company that picks money over life and isnt an essential business should be shut down in my opinion.

      1. If all the employees of the furniture factory Joyce works at stays home they’re just following the orders of the Govenor.
If the factory refuses to pay the unemployment they are foolish.
In my opinion their threat has no merit.

    2. I think that’s a question for the Governor’s office. If every factory employee would call his office maybe they would understand how serious this is.
By they I’m referring to factory management and the Government.

      1. True I’m scared for my two daughters that work in a furniture factory that they will have them going back before it’s over,God please see over everyone I pray for all the health care workers who are putting their lives in danger

  4. So on Saturday they say where the 4th case went to mass, time and day. But these 2 new cases, they don’t release any information?

  5. why are there companies still open if this pandemic is so critical to do stay at home and safe distance why are these companies still being allowed to be open . And forcing her employees to go to work. These companies need to be shut down so the pandemic and slow down stay-at-home order should be enforced.

    1. Maybe time to publicize/name local managers/owners and picket with signs their residential areas.

  6. some of us work 3ft apart in wood factories. If we dont go we dont get paid. If we do go we risk getting it. lockdown and staying home is mandatory but made to go work where your surrounded by people. how is that gonna help. who needs chairs and desk right now. it boils down to money

  7. Who needs cabinets? Employees need to stay home to stay safe and prevent from getting exposed on getting sick.

  8. At least let every one know where that person was in the last 2 weeks. In case we were any where around him are her.

  9. Agree. There needs to be better transparency. I’d also like to know what is happening with the six people who have tested positive for Covid-19 so far. Are they mild cases or severe? Does anyone know how they contracted the illness? Are family, friends and co-workers of these people all being quarantined? Does Memorial have the equipment and staff to treat these patients and others who will test positive in the days and weeks ahead?

I recognize the need to respect medical privacy under normal circumstances, but what’s happening right now is anything but normal.
