Donald J. Werne, 90, passed away on Monday, June 20 at his home in Plantation, Fla., surrounded by his family.

Don was born in Ferdinand, IN on May 13, 1932, to Raymond and Dorothy (Dotterweich) Werne.
He married Rita Sermersheim on Feb. 15, 1958, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.
He attended Huntingburg High School and served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Korea. Don owned Werne Plastering in Jasper for a number of years before moving to Ft. Lauderdale Fla., where he continued in the construction industry until his retirement at the age of 76.
He is survived by his wife Rita son, Kevin (Joanne) Werne of Sunrise, Fla.; two daughters, Kristie Blessinger of Orlando and Allison of Florida; six grandchildren, Travis Blessinger of Belle Isles, Fla., Victoria, and Trevor Blessinger of Orlando, Michael Werne of Sunrise, Danielle (Joel) Snyder of Plantation and Joey Werne of Sunrise; two great-grandsons, Michael and Tristan Werne; brother, T. W. (Bill) Werne of Phoenix Ariz.; two sisters, Dolores Boeglin of Ferdinand and Elaine (John) Bettag of Mariah Hill; sister-in-law, Doris Werne of Ferdinand.
Preceding Don in death in addition to his parents, are a son-in-law, Jeff Blessinger, a brother, Allen Werne, sister Phyllis Sermersheim, a brother-in-law, Jack Boeglin, a sister-in-law, Betty Werne and a brother-in-law, John Sermersheim.
Don was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Military services will be held at a later date at South Florida National Cemetery Veterans Affair.
