Dog shoots woman in foot

North Webster — A hunter was shot by her dog who was aptly named Trigger.

Around 10 o’clock Saturday morning Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a person that had been shot while hunting.

Allie Carter, 25, of Avilla, was hunting waterfowl at the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area in northern Indiana at about 10 a.m. Saturday when she got up to reposition herself.

She had put her 12-gauge shotgun on the ground at her feet and as she was getting up Trigger stepped on top of the shotgun depressing the trigger.

The shotgun went off and Carter was shot in the foot at point blank range. She suffered injuries to her left foot and toes.

The safety of the firearm was not on and Carter had never completed a hunter education course, according to authorities.

She was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital and later transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

The public should be mindful that accidents like this happen when you toe the line with safety. Always point the muzzle of a firearm in a safe direction and use the safety mechanism.
