Detective Miller says the Gootee case is ongoing
Lindsay Gootee was arrested last Tuesday for the aggravated battery of her infant son. Gootee posted bail and was out of the D.C. Security Center by the next day. At her arraignment on Friday, Judge Weikert set her court date for December 14 at 10 a.m. and informed Gootee she was responsible for procuring her own counsel.
Comments from the public on Facebook and the D.C. Freep continue to imply that the Gootee, a single mother, could never have hurt the child in such a grievous manner and the commentary isn’t just from friends and family, others following the case seem to have formed opinions of their own.
Today in a phone interview Jasper PD Detective Lisa Miller stated that she was discouraged by the lack of commentary regarding the true victim in the case. “It’s been lost that there’s a child victim here. The well-being of the child was the most important aspect of the investigation.”
According to the medical report the infant suffered from chronic and acute bilateral subdural hematomas, his right leg was broken, and his left leg may have been fractured. Miller went on to state she would not release information about the infant’s condition at this time but did affirm that the true extent of his injuries may not be known for some time due to his age.
Miller further stated in regards to the investigation, “A case like this is never truly closed until after the trial.”

We all must remember the baby is the victim here and "someone" had caused serious pain and injuries to this baby and someone needs to be held responsibile for there actions. So sad it just makes me sick.
With all respect to Det. Miller, many who wrote to the DC Freep including several of the majority on the side of Gootee, affirmed that the baby's well-being was paramount, even to the point of wondering why something wasn't noticed and done sooner for the child. Of course the child is the true victim, but it's only natural to focus on who the offender was.
