Crash near Boggs Lake kills two men (updated)

Update:

Police have released the identity of the passenger killed in the crash. John Brett, 35, of Shoals was the passenger in the 2008 Dodge Avenger that was struck on U.S. 231 near County Road 700 North.
Brett was transported from the scene to Memorial Hospital in Jasper and later transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, where he died as a result of his injuries.

Martin County:  A two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 231 near Boggs Lake claimed the lives of two men.

Police responded to the head-on crash on U.S. 231 at 8:20 a.m. near County Road 700 North. According to police, Kevin Sears, 60, of Odon, was northbound on U.S. 231, when for an unknown reason, his 2002 Honda Civic veered into the southbound lane directly into the path of a 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by 29-year-old Zachary Greene of Loogootee.  Sears’s Honda struck Greene’s Stratus, coming to a stop almost immediately.

Sears was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Martin County Coroner. Greene and his front seat passenger were both transported to Memorial Hospital in Jasper. The passenger was transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Notification of his passing to family is still pending.  Greene was being treated for injuries to his legs and ankle.

All three vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by ISP crash reconstructionists.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Department, Loogootee Fire Department, Martin County EMS and Southwest Medical assisted at the scene.

Another mystery crash – “for unknown reasons” – involving a vehicle drifting/swerving into oncoming traffic or off the road, etc. What is happening with these drifting/swerving mystery crashes – that we rarely ever hear about again in terms of the cause as determined by accident investigation results? WHY are people drifting/swerving so much, and either killing themselves and/or others? Let’s have it, Sgt Hensley (ISP) – how about a report from you on why these are happening so much. Thanks.
