Charles V. Englert, 85, Ferdinand
Charles V. Englert, 85, of Ferdinand, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand.
He was born in St. Anthony, on July 15, 1935, to Michael and Mayme (Greener) Englert. He married Patricia Hedinger Oct. 17, 1959, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. She died on March 26, 2006.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Charles was a past member of the Ferdinand American Legion and VFW posts. An auto mechanic and small business owner, Charles managed gas stations in Ferdinand and Dale. He also owned a tavern in St. Meinrad and performed maintenance for Lincoln Hills Development Corp. after retirement. He enjoyed playing steel guitar, reading and gardening.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Englert of Jasper and Sonya (Bill) May of Cary, N.C.; a son, Stuart Englert of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Alice Hentrup of Jasper; a brother Joe Englert of St. Anthony; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild, and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Bachman and Helen Weyer; and two brothers, Hilbert and Linus.
Graveside services will be held at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church cemetery at 10:00 am Friday, Aug 7. There will be no visitation.
