Charlene R. Schitter, 75, of Velpen, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at home.

Charlene was born in Washington, Indiana on October 3, 1943, to Charles and Mildred (Singleton) Perkins. She married Reginald “Reggie” Schitter on November 11, 1961, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2011. 

Charlene worked as a clerk for the Pike County Public Library for many years.  She was also a writer and enjoyed visiting local schools portraying and telling stories as Mary Todd Lincoln. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading, writing, genealogy, and spending time with her family and her beloved dog. 

She is survived are two daughters, Ann Sutton (Joe) of Petersburg, Krissy Miles, (fiancé, Brett Nalley) of Stendal; one son, Joe Schitter (Mary Beth) of Newburgh; six grandchildren, Nicole Sutton, Sarah Sutton-Mota, Jamen Frederick, Chris Sutton, Conor Miles and Morgan Schitter; one sister, Sharon Himsel (Junie) of Ireland.    

Preceding her in death besides her husband was one sister Judy Kortzendorf and one brother George Perkins. 

Funeral services for Charlene R. Schitter will be held at noon on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper with burial to follow at a later date at Shiloh Cemetery in Jasper.  

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the noon service time on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Pike County Public Library, or a favorite charity.

To the family of Charlene your mother was a wonderful wonderful person a good lady new Charlene and your dad Reggie many years we are cousins my mom and dad Rudy and VirginiaSchitter talk very highly of them she will be dearly missed that many your cousin Mike Doc Schitter I am in Texas working wish I could have been there God bless you all
