Cathedral Health announces a contracted employee has tested positive for Covid-19
Cathedral Health Care Center has announced that an employee through a contracted service has tested positive for Covid-19 although the individual is asymptomatic.
All our employees, including this positive contract employee, are in masks for added protection for our residents, Cathedral said on the company’s Facebook page.
“This contract employee is currently off work from the facility. Per guidelines from the Indiana State Department of Health, we now have to count this contract employee in our daily COVID numbers for our facility,” they continued.
Resident and employee safety remains our top priority, they said.
The organization has reached out to local and state health departments for guidance on any further testing that is recommended or required. They are also monitoring all residents and employees for signs and symptoms of Covid-19.

Knew it was only a matter of time before this happened. I’m sure that the regular workers there have been very good about take precautions at work and at home. However, when you have someone who comes to your place of business as a contract worker who has been to other places for work, you do not know their history or those they’ve came in contact with. How strict on rules have they or others they have worked with been?
I don’t want to blame the contracted employee, they are trying to work to feed their family but has the employment service they work for been lax in their rules, procedures and testing in regards to this virus? Has this person worked at other retirement homes in the Jasper area? There is another report of several cases at The Good Samaritan/Northwood home, did this person work there? If so, that just sounds like a recipe for disaster. Moving from place to place is a sure way to transmit not only covid-19 but many communicable diseases. Maybe there should be a cool off period for someone doing this sort of job just in case they have contracted something from one place, so they don’t take it to another.
I’m sure that most people in health care and especially those who work in a retirement home take this virus seriously and try to protect themselves when not at work in order to protect those who are in their care. The problem is that a person can do everything right themselves but can contract this virus through a family member who isn’t as careful with their daily interactions with others.
I hope with the strict guidelines that these homes have been following, they were able to detect signs of the virus and get the person tested before the virus was able to spread.
Seems like a true/blue “I told you so” – what a thing to be gloating about after how well these facilities have been doing. No, you absolutely didn’t know – you only “knew” after the fact – and it’s both testimony and tribute to the local Jasper and all DC nursing homes to how well they/their staffs have been so careful and attentive to precautions and procedures, et al, that this has just now happened so far as we know after three long months of this stuff. It’s quite amazing, really, and Bravo to them all for their jobs well done. That said, it’s not over, and these residents and staff are the most vulnerable from daily contact/care responsibilities, of advanced age, health issues, and isolated/indoors, so indeed let’s hope these infections are most minimal in severity, and that any others are/can also be minimized or prevented.
Wow! You’ve got something to say about everything don’t you?You are very opinionated! Do you even realize what I said? I was basically praising them for the effort they have put forth but, being as I’m married to probably the hardest working nurse at that facility, I tried not to let that sway my comments. I like to think I’m a little more free thinking than that.
But yes, it took someone from outside of the normal work group to bring it in. Like I said, when someone goes from place to place as a contrated employee, there is a much higher likelihood of transmitting communicable diseases.
Now you have yourself a nice day!!
Stop it! Hate is hate, it doesn’t matter what kind it is it’s wrong!
If the contract worker is taking the same precautions as the other employees there shouldn’t be any concerns.
Each employee should be screened before entering work. Just like they screen the hospital employees and other nursing home employees.
For the past 3 months the focus has been on Hospitals and protecting doctors and nurses. But we forget about those who work in nursing homes and those who work in home health care.
The Coronavirus doesn’t discriminate against any employee.
It can affect doctors and nurses, nurses aide’s and home health care workers.
Consider the source, Michael. “Irma” clearly has nothing better to do than attack, attack, attack. This has been his/her MO for quite some time. I can only assume this person is a very unhappy individual.
My heart goes out to the healthcare workers who are trying so hard to keep everyone in this community safe.
She has always commented saying it’s freedom blah ……. yes too opinionated she is and wrong ….. she makes alot of people sick by her remarks anyway. Poof imma .GET THE FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe Mrs. Green is being rudely attacked because of her comment. She said how well Dubois county nursing homes have done in taking precautions, she didn’t say they’re negligent.
Michael you made accusations against a contract worker at a place of business, then you went even further and…
I refuse to continue. My point is, we all make mistakes. We all have an opinion and some people may be what you all call opinionated. But there’s no excuse to attack them.
Unless all of you know something about the situation at the nursing home the rest of us don’t, the attack on Mrs. Green was undeserved.
