Carol A. Burris, 72, of Birdseye, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Carol was born in Dubois County on April 28, 1947, to Robert L. and Ardella T. (Engelhart) Stenftenagel. She married Thomas Burris on September 26, 1986. 

She worked as a telephone lineman supervisor for GTE in Jasper and also was a horticulture buyer for a mail-order catalog in Peoria, Ill. She loved gardening and mushroom hunting and enjoyed helping with the Birdseye chicken fries and the St. Anthony and Birdseye Firemen’s festivals. 

She is survived by urviving are her husband, Thomas Burris of Birdseye; one son, Brian Kluesner of Jasper; one stepson, Jason Burris (Julie) of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Bettye Walling (Jerry) of Pacific, Mo., Linda Fuchs of Ferdinand, Nancy Verkamp (Louie) of Ferdinand, and Sandy Sermersheim (Kevin) of Ferdinand; two brothers, Jim Stenftenagel (Ann) of St. Anthony and Ken Stenftenagel of St. Anthony. 

Preceding her in death were her parents. Private graveside services and burial will be held at a later date at the Birdseye Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lange Fuhs Cancer Center or a favorite charity.

  1. So sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. I will always remember her a a dear and sincere friend who had a heart of gold and always saw the good in everyone. she was always ready to help where help is needed. I remember her as one of my St. Anthony Grade School Class and St. Ferdinand Class of 1965 classmate as a great group and she was a shining star of the class. Carol you will be missed but I feel knowing as a blessing.
    Carol may your spirit live on.
