Car destroyed after colliding with train near Duff

A Velpen woman’s passenger car was destroyed when it struck the side of a train at a railroad crossing near Duff Wednesday.
Shelly Schwenk, 64, was northbound on County Road 600W approaching the railroad crossing near West 400S at about 1:45 p.m. according to police. She struck the side of the lead engine of the Norfolk Southern train which, police said, had already entered the intersection.
Police estimated the Norfolk Southern train with 85 cars and three engines was eastbound traveling at about 35 to 50 mph at the time of the collision. The crossing had functioning signals at the time of the crash.
Schwenk did not suffer any apparent injuries in the crash but she was transported to Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure.
The 2015 BMW X4 she was driving was a total loss.
Memorial Hospital and Sternberg’s assisted the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department at the scene.

Another distracted driver (“I didn’t hear or see it, or the signals”)? Or maybe racing to beat the train? If the latter, good thing she was slow. Regardless, thankfully she wasn’t hurt – she was very lucky.
Thankfully she didn’t suffer any injuries.
But tell me, where in this article did it say she “didn’t hear or see it, or the signals”? Of even that she was “distracted” or “trying to beat the train”?
Every single 1 of your posts, is condescending of the people involved. Whether intentional or not, you should be ashamed of yourself for being so demeaning about EVERY ONE, Or perhaps, you should fight the, apparently, strong urge to comment on almost every article on here.
Everyone has an opinion. Not every opinion needs to be shared.
Couldn’t agree more.
Ditto
Totally agree with you on her comments. Thanks for speaking out!
I agree with IRG.I worked on railroad for 41 years and people are always trying to beat trains. Most of the time they end up dead.sometimes they are LUCKY enough to live although badly injured!!!
