Buffalo Trace Jeepers plan Honor, Remember and Ride event
Anyone with a vehicle is invited to take part in the Honor, Remember and Ride event hosted by the Buffalo Trace Jeepers this Sunday, September 11.
Jeeps, cars and motorcycles are invited to join in the event to honor local law enforcement, fire departments and ambulance services in Jasper, Huntingburg and Ferdinand.
The ride will begin at 1:30 p.m., with line-up from noon to 1 p.m. at Sternberg’s Automotive, 1781 US 231 in Jasper. A driver’s meeting will be held at 1:15 p.m. The ride will wind through the county with the goal of dropping off gift bags at area police, fire and ambulance stations.
The ride will end at 4 p.m. at the Veterans Monument in Huntingburg, with a ceremony to follow at 4:30 p.m.
The group is collecting $5 and $10 gift cards to give each officer, firefighter or emergency worker at least one token of appreciation.

There is no need to apologize for doing/not doing something right or wrong in such a noble effort as this, to include not remembering or mentioning and recognizing everyone down to the Nth (or politically correct) degree. Simply state that if you are or consider yourself (group, agency, etc)a first responder, we salute you – this is for you – and use the more widely and commonly defined first responders (police, fire, medical) as representative of ALL “first responders.” The debate or definition of a conventional first responder isn’t so easy, but generally includes police, fire and related medical personnel who are usually first on the scene of an emergency. Thanks for your (Jeepers) efforts – if some feel they or others were somehow “left out” of the recognition or mention, be assured it’s nothing intentional and be glad for what it is and represents. By the way, Huntingburg has the only 9-11 monument-memorial in the county, I believe, specifically honoring first responders and so many others lost on 9-11-01.
