Historically, turnout for the primary elections has been extremely low, yet it is so important to help shape our future, especially at the local and state level. Over the past year, our organization has continued to ask our local political leaders, state legislators and candidates to publicly state whether they are for or against the…
I have a confession. I am way more bothered by someone who is opposed to the Corridor voting for the same people who are pushing the Corridor forward than by writing countless letters to the editor saying that those elected officials aren’t “listening to the people,” than by somebody voting illegally. I guess this is…
Perhaps the pages of the Dubois County Free Press are not the correct venue to have a political debate; but, it’s the only venue we have. To many people, on both sides of the aisle, we have an integrity crisis in our election system. It’s really a rather new crisis. Yes, as a nation we have grappled…
I am delighted that Jim Arvin has finally found the text of the SAVE Act (H.R. 22), even if he seems to be struggling with how to read it. He claims that “one’s driver’s license is all that is needed to vote.” This is like saying all you need to drive a car is a key—ignoring…
Mr. Matthew Larson made some inaccurate remarks in his recent Letter to the editor regarding the SAVE ACT. First, I have read H.R. 22. The first sentence states, “AN ACT To amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for…
Well, he can put another one in the win column. That’s nine wars that President Donald J. Trump has successfully brought to resolution. Hard to believe now how anyone can object to his finally claiming the Nobel Peace Prize. Scott NewtonJasper
Regarding Jim Arvin’s letter, one illegal vote is too many for a guy whose opinion I disagree with so much on the Mid-States Corridor issue. I sure do agree with you on this illegal vote and election integrity matter. Nice letter. Mac McDonaldHuntingburg
I am writing to offer a much-needed reality check to Jim Arvin’s recent letter regarding the SAVE Act. While it’s easy to get swept up in high-stakes language about “anarchy” and “faith,” it’s much harder to actually read the bill, which, based on Mr. Arvin’s claims, he clearly hasn’t done. Mr. Arvin asks, “Why is…
With the Sheriff race in full swing, I feel obligated to share my support and recommendation of Tim Lampert for Dubois County Sheriff. Being not only a community member and taxpayer of Dubois County, I am also a professional and community leader. I have had the privilege of working with many outstanding law enforcement officers…
Why is it that our Democratic leaders and wannabe leaders are opposed to a bill that will reestablish faith and trust in our election process? Do non-citizens vote in our elections? Yes, some do. Is it a large enough number to sway an election? It only takes one vote to change the outcome of any…
