Ferdinand — The Ferdinand Town Council learned that Masterbrand is expanding and adding up to 135 new positions in 2014. Attorney Bill Shaneyfelt has been working with MasterBrand on a project that would include $1.1 million in new equipment at the company’s Ferdinand facility and 135 new jobs by June 1. In return, the company is seeking a…
Despite the foul weekend weather, it was a good one for the combined staff of the Ferdinand News and Spencer County Leader. The two newspapers were honored during the Hoosier State Press Association Foundation’s Better Newspaper Contest with a combined total of 19 awards, including a third place finish for the Blue Ribbon and third…
The bins are in — or at least they will be by this Friday. Ferdinand Town Council members discussed the upcoming premium recycling plan at their meeting Tuesday night. They do have concerns, especially those living in the area surrounding 18th…
Last Spring, Forest Park Junior High student Mitchell Tobin approached first the Ferdinand Fire Department, then the Town Council with a plan. Tobin wanted to focus on the town’s fire hydrants for his Eagle Scout project. He noticed the hydrants are hard to see at night and felt something could be done to make them…
Several years ago, Ferdinand’s Park Board developed a plan to build a shelter house/amphitheatre in 18th Street Park, but at the time it did not prove to be feasible. Cost was a factor, as was the type of structure under discussion. At the August 13 Town Council meeting, Park Board President Scott Tretter again broached…
Resident Mary Ann Schilling is concerned. Schilling, who lives on West 3rd Street, told the Town Council at their Tuesday night meeting that the school bus serving her street must stop and tun around to complete the route. The problem, as Schilling explained it, is “people get right up [on the bus’s] bumper and don’t…
