Arthur Elmer Kapp, 76, of Jasper, passed away at 2:52 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020, at home.

Art was born in Dubois County on December 28, 1943, to Albert and Anastasia (Schneider) Kapp. He married Irene Eckert Schmalenberger on November 20, 1999, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. 

Art was a U.S. Army veteran. He served for three years in Germany.  He retired after 20 years as an electronic technician for Amusement Equipment. In retirement, he and his wife, Irene, opened Kapp Winery. He enjoyed the outdoors, flea markets, and making peanut brittle, BBQ sauce, jellies and jams. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, the American Legion Post #147, Jasper Outdoor REC, Knights of Columbus, Jasper German Club (Deutscherverein), and Dubois County Museum. 

He is survived by his wife, Irene Kapp of Jasper; two sons, Chad (Jennifer) Kapp of Evansville and Greg (Lynn) Kapp of Dale; two stepchildren, Adam Schmalenberger and Amy (Greg) King, both of Jasper; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Hollinden of St. Henry, Elfrieda Oeding of Ferdinand, and Lucille Kleeman of Huntingburg. 

Preceding him in death are one sister, Norma Jean Schnell, two brothers, Basil and Jim Kapp, and two siblings who died in infancy, Joan and Charles Kapp. 

Private funeral services will be held at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, Indiana. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.

    Hugs to you all. We are thinking of you all and want you to know that we love you all. It is times like this when God is carrying you and you must rely on your Faith. We are hurting knowing that you have endured another loss. We are praying that you are able to find Peace and Joy in the memories.

  3. I remember Art from way back in the day of mazzio’s Pizza and there arcade room. Great guy! Prayers go out to his wife and his family!

  5. Blessings and prayers for all his families. Art was such a nice person. I will always remember our small chitchats his humble ways, of course his peanut brittle and all other goodies he would share with everyone.

  6. I never knew Art, but my prayers are with him at this time. I have a question for the Family,
    and my name is Leroy Heldman, and I now live in Knoxville TN, but grew up in Jasper. My mother was Mary Teresa Kapp and I would like to know if we are of kin? Thanks for any help you may have on this as my mother died when I was almost 3 years old.
