Not too many functioning brain cells in his head. You never clean a loaded gun, ever. It’s one of the most important rules in safe gun handling. People like this give gun owners a bad reputation.
Amen. It never ceases to amaze me how this sort of “accident” occurs – many with tragic results. That the gun was being “cleaned” seems suspect – they always use this excuse or that of “showing it” to someone or other such mindless action. The story doesn’t say if this guy had a carry permit, but if not and in addition to being charged appropriately, he should be barred from obtaining one for at least a year if a first offense and assuming still eligible, until he submits clear evidence of subsequent firearms training. If he did have a permit, he should forfeit it under the same criteria – and maybe this or a similar law is already in place.
Is a lack of common sense but could be just that.
