Charles P. “Sonny” Cooper, 69, of Huntingburg passed away at 11:38 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at his home in Huntingburg.

He was born November 1, 1945 in Dale, Indiana, to Earl and Hazel (Niehaus) Cooper.  He married Suzanne Struckman on June 4, 1984.

Mr. Cooper co-owned Huntingburg Excavating. He started and co-owned L & S Coal Company. He also owned Cooper Rail Service which he started with a backhoe and dump truck and built it to the great business it is today.  Sonny enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, watching Nascar racing, going to the casino and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ruth Ann Albridge.

 

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Cooper of Huntingburg; one daughter, Kari Cronin and her husband Mike of Huntingburg; two sons, Ryan Cooper and his wife Jill and Kit Cooper and his wife Arin, both of Huntingburg; one sister, Earlene Mennen of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Bailey, Jaxon and Kyree Cronin, Masen and Jaelyn Cooper, Brooklyn and Braxtyn Cooper, all of Huntingburg.

 

Friends may call for visitation for Charles P. “Sonny” Cooper on Sunday, April 19, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. EDT at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
