Jasper, IN – The Rotary Club of Jasper, host of the first annual ATHENA International Leadership Award® presentation in Dubois County, has announced this year’s twelve finalists.
The finalists are Germaine Blessinger, Maureen Braun, Tonya Brothers-Bridge, Jane B. Chappell, Nancy Eckerle, Nancy Habig, Angie Pfaff, JoAnne Rhodes, Angie Sander, Diane Schwenk, Vickie Tollett, and Shannon Wood. The event will be held at the Huntingburg Event Center on Thursday, August 23, 2012, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with Indiana Secretary of State, Connie Lawson, as the keynote speaker.
Founded in 1982 by Martha Mayhood Mertz, ATHENA® International is a non-profit organization that seeks to support, develop and honor women leaders. The program inspires women to reach their full potential and strives to create balance in leadership worldwide. All of the nominees were subjected to a rigorous screening process. These twelve scored the highest, and each will receive a finalist award. One will be the recipient of the 2012 ATHENA International Leadership Award®, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Jasper, to be announced at the event on August 23.
Supporting, honoring and developing women leaders are the foundations of the ATHENA Leadership Model®, developed through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The model identifies eight distinct attributes that are reflective of women’s contributions to leadership: Authentic Self, Relationships, Giving Back, Collaboration, Courageous Acts, Learning, Fierce Advocacy, and Celebration and Joy.
These personal traits combined with the strongest aspects of traditional leadership—taking risks, assertiveness, hard work—prepare women to be successful leaders in the 21st Century. These twelve women are recognized for demonstrating these characteristics in their lives and careers.
Since the program’s inception, more than 6,000 awards have been presented in over 500 communities in the United States, Canada, China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
The Rotary Club of Jasper decided that honoring a local business woman would be a perfect fit with the ATHENA® Mission of “supporting, developing and honoring women leaders while inspiring women to achieve their full potential while creating balance in leadership worldwide!”
German American, MasterBrand Cabinets, Inc., and Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center are the platinum sponsors of this event. BR Associates, Old National Bank, and Springs Valley Bank & Trust are Premium Sponsors. The Rotary Club of Jasper is coordinating the entire event.
