Yo-Peak is another step for successful business owners Monica and Jeff Tunks
Monica and Jeff Tunks are busy; really busy. These entrepreneurs are constantly updating and expanding new services for Dubois County. They own Batteries Now, a new motorsports dealership is in the works at the Krodel Wholesale building, Norms Market, the Jasper City Bakery, and their most recent addition, Yo-Peak.
Yo-Peak is a self-serve frozen yogurt bar located in the Jasper City Bakery at 600 N. Truman Rd.
“We decided to do this for a couple of reasons,” Monica explained. “Jasper doesn’t have anything like this and we like bringing new things to the area. Plus it’s really good and it’s nutritious.”
The couple feel the high quality of the frozen yogurt fits well with the rest of their business. “The deli meats at Norm’s don’t have the preservatives, the breads and donuts in the bakery are all fresh made from the original recipes, and the ice cream is made here from Prairie Farms cream.” Monica said. “I’m not supposed to have a lot of sugar and I can eat this without any problems.”
The frozen yogurt is offered in a couple of flavors and if the new offerings become popular Monica and Jeff plan on adding another machine to accommodate more flavors.
The yogurt machines are located in the Jasper City Bakery area of Norm’s Market. Customers grab a paper cup and can walk up to the yogurt dispenser. Pumpkin Pie, Cheesecake, Sugar Free Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, and Vanilla-Chocolate twist are the flavors offered.
Pull a lever for your chosen flavor and fill your cup as much as you want, then a quick trip to the nearby topping bar allows you to destroy all that nutritious goodness with chocolate sprinkles and candy or add to it with some fresh fruit or nuts. Take it up to the counter where the price is determined by the weight of your special treat.
The Tunks purchase their yogurt from a premium supplier. The same supplier used by a fast-growing national yogurt chain. Actually Monica and Jeff got the idea for the new addition when they saw the popularity of these new self-serve frozen yogurt chains on a trip. The two immediately saw the potential for the service and made plans to add it to their other food services.
With the new service, Monica and Jeff are starting a campaign to help area organizations to raise some money in a fun easy way.
“Band boosters, churches, anyone that wants to raise money can call us and set up a time and date for a fundraiser.” Monica explained. “Any sales that come during that time just have to mention the fundraiser or the group and 20% of the sales will be given to them.”
They will also offer cards for these organizations to hand out to kids and parents. The cards will be labeled with the fundraising organization’s name and the customer just needs to present the card when they purchase their frozen treat to reward the listed fundraiser.
“It’s just really easy, no one has to sell anything.” Monica said. “They can hand out the cards we provide or send out a notice of when the fundraiser is happening.”
Self-serve frozen goodness and fundraising opportunities go hand in hand in this new addition to the Tunks’ expanding business ventures.
