Woman facing drug charges after single vehicle crash

Deputies allegedly found methamphetamine and controlled substances after a woman lost control of her car and crashed north of Holland early Saturday morning.

According to deputies, Barbara A. Cunningham, 54, of St. Anthony Road N., was northbound on State Road 161 in a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse at about 1:29 a.m. when the crash occurred. Cunningham told deputies she looked away from the roadway for a brief time and the Traverse traveled left of center and went off the west side of the road. It struck the dirt embankment to a driveway at 6590 S. State Road 161 and the vehicle possibly went airborne for a short distance before traveling about 200 feet onto the property and stopping.

Cunningham was unable to exit the vehicle on her own.

She was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for a broken lower leg and cracked sternum according to police.

During the investigation, deputies located a crystalline substance which later field tested positive for methamphetamine and controlled substances. Due to Cunningham’s injuries, charges for possession of methamphetamine, operating a vehicle while intoxicated – drugs, and possession of a controlled substance are pending.

Deputies were assisted on scene by Holland Volunteer Fire Department and Sternbergs Wrecker.
