Wilmer G. Kreitzer, 93
Wilmer G. Kreitzer, age 93, of Dubois, Indiana, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.
Wilmer was born in rural Dubois County Indiana on December 5, 1920 to George and Sophia (Harker) Kreitzer. He married Janice Zehr on May 8, 1945 at St. Peter’s Church in Dubois, Indiana.
Wilmer worked for Midwest Manufacturing, which later became the Jasper Corporation and Kimball International, for 40 and 1/2 years.
He was a Navy Veteran who served during World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1946. He made five trips across the Pacific during his service.
He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois since April of 1946, in which he held many offices and sang in the choir.
He was a member of the VFW Post #673. He served on the board of the Dubois Water Utilities for over 40 years. He was a member of the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department from 1954 to 1977, a member of the Dubois Community Club, the Dubois Development Corp., and a past member of the Harbison Township Trustee Advisory Board.
He enjoyed attending Dubois High School basketball games, and taking drives.
Wilmer is survived by his wife, Janice Kreitzer of Dubois; three daughters, Diana Terwiske and her husband Butch, of Dubois,Mary Beth Lottes and her husband Scott, of Haysville, and Lisa Matheis and her husband Nick, of Dubois; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Walmer Kreitzer, who died in childhood.
Funeral services for Wilmer G. Kreitzer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois, Indiana with burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Dubois, IN. The Rev. John Sterrett will officiate. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before services at church on Wednesday.
