Willie Raymond Pierce, 83

Willie Raymond Pierce, age 83, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away at 12:12 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born February 2, 1930 in Burkesville, Kentucky to William and Myrtie (Branham) Pierce. He served in the United States Army for five years and was a Korean War veteran. He suffered a stroke 18 years ago and has since resided with and been cared for by his ex-wife and legal guardian, Albertenia Kennedy of Birdseye. He was preceded in death by: his parents; six brothers – Ray, Milbern, Fred, Harry, Ruel, and Farris Pierce; and one sister, Mable Scott.
He is survived by his guardian and caregiver, Albertenia Kennedy of Birdseye, IN; five daughters, Sherry Williamson of Phyllis, KY, Cindy Charles of Pikeville, KY, Liza Burch of Pikeville, KY, Delanna Sanders of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Thelma Lou Thacker of Pikeville, KY; one son, Willie Raymond Pierce, Jr.; three stepsons and one stepdaughter, Loren Daum of Birdseye, IN, Raymond Daum of Jasper, IN, James Smith 0f Ferdinand, IN, Cynthia McCellan of Ferdinand, IN; one brother, Nathanael Paul of South Carolina; one sister, Lucille Gibson of Taswell, IN; and by 13 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Willie Raymond Pierce will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.S.T., on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Andry Cemetery in Birdseye. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. Rev. Albert Madden will officiate the services.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from noon to 2 p.m., on Wednesday, the day of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with burial expenses.
