William Emmons, 88

William Emmons, 88, of Lamar passed away October 27th at Scenic Hills Care Center.
Bill, as he was known all is life was born on May 25th 1927 to and William and Lily (Price) Emmons in Buffaloville.
He was a 1945 graduate of Dale High School. He served in the United States Army as part of the Occupation Forces in Germany from 1945 through 1947. He was united in marriage to Winifred (Southwood) on July 14th, 1948.
The one main constant in his life after his family was his love of baseball. He played and managed the Lamar Merchants for 13 years. Following that he coached the Dale Legion baseball team, Evanston Little team ( his grandson’s Ben’s team ), Pony and Teener teams. He then became the Field Program director for Yellig Park’s baseball and softball fields. In 2009, a baseball field at Yellig Park was dedicated and named for him for the time and effort he had gave to their programs. He was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan his entire life.
Some of his other loves were hunting and fishing. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, taking many bus trips. They only missed one of the United States; Hawaii. He worked for Kraft Foods for ten years and then began at Whirlpool Corporation , retiring there after 27 years. He was an elder at the Mt. Zion Christian Church, Santa Claus, Indiana and chairman of the Church Board for 20 years. He was on the board of Directors for the Santa Claus Community Apartments. He was President of the Buffaloville Cemetery.
Bill is survived by his wife Winnie; a daughter Pamela (Jerry deceased) Thompson of Lamar; sons, Gerald (Vera) Emmons of Dale and Rick (Becky)Emmons of Ferdinand; grandchildren Amy (Scott) Waninger of Indianapolis, Erin (Steve) Parker of Tell City and Ben (Dana) Thompson of Mooresville and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday Oct. 30, 2015 from 3 p.m. till 7 p.m CST at Fuller Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are planned for Saturday Oct. 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. CST at Mt. Zion Christian Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery Fund.
