William E. “Bill” Meyer, 66, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 1:14 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Bill was born on July 25, 1948 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Louis and Olivia (Oser) Meyer. He married Brenda Wigand on June 5, 1971 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, Indiana.

Bill was a Jasper High School graduate. Bill was a Vietnam veteran and served in the United States Army. He retired from Gudorf Supply where he had worked for 43 years. He was fire chief for eight years and was a member of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years from 1976 to 2000.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a Lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #673, the American Legion Post #147, Wounded Veterans of Dubois County, the Jasper Moose, and the Jasper Outdoor Recreation.

He enjoyed the outdoors, Nascar, camping, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Meyer of Jasper; two daughters, Channa Crase and her husband Brian of Evansville and Mandy Harris and her husband Scot of Huntingburg; four grandchildren, Baylee and Calvin Crase, and Emma and Mitchel Harris; mother, Olivia Meyer of Jasper; one sister, Lois Recker and her husband Mark of Dubois; three brothers, Kenneth “Kenny” Meyer and his wife Connie of Jasper, Steven Meyer and his wife Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Charles “Chuck” Meyer and his wife Cindy of Jasper.

Preceding him in death is his father, Louis J. Meyer.

Funeral services for William E. “Bill” Meyer will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 1, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The IVFA District #18 will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.
