Ladies young and old are stopping by Jagged Edge today to donate their hair for a special cause.

Wigs for Kids is a non-profit organization that seeks to serve children suffering from hair loss by creating hair replacement systems made from real hair. The tough wigs are made to take the wringer that kids can put them through.

Melanie Arehart, 30, of Holland, who was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer, helped organize the event and broadcast it live on WITZ AM/FM today as many volunteers came in to donate hair. Melanie has been donating her own hair since 2008 when a family member went through a battle with cancer. Every two years, she lops her hair off and sends it into the organization.

It takes between 20 and 30 people to donate their hair for a single wig. The wigs cost about $1,800 to make and are donated to children battling cancer.

The event is continuing at Jagged Edge until at least 2 p.m. but anyone wanting to donate hair can come by throughout the day.
