What if we didn’t have a time change anymore and does Indiana need a state fruit?

Hey Reader

It’s Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Inauguration Day.

We wrote a long story on the Legislative Breakfast hosted by the Jasper Chamber of Commerce on Saturday morning. Legislators are wrestling with lowering property taxes, pushing local governments to rely on income tax increases to cover tax revenue losses.

On a couple of positive notes, Representative Lindauer is trying to pass a bill to keep Indiana on standard time rather than going back and forth in the spring and fall. What do you think? Tell us in the poll at the end of the newsletter.

Also, he authored a bill to make the persimmon the state fruit at the request of a fourth-grade class in Jasper.

Jasper Superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey announced she would be heading to the Department of Education as the new deputy director—no word on a new superintendent for Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation.

Finally, Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center announced a $1.07 million grant from the Dubois County Community Foundation to enhance mental health services within our community.

I hope you have a great week.

From Dubois County with love.
