French Lick — A West Baden man died as a result of his injuries this morning during a rollover crash on State Road 56.

Around 7:20 a.m., Gared Blake Allen, 28, of West Baden, was eastbound on State Road 56 in a red 2000 Sterling dump truck. For an unknown reason, Allen drove off the south edge of the roadway on French Lick Hill and was unable to steer the truck back onto the road. This caused the vehicle to slide down a ditch line, overturn, and strike a tree. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Coroner’s Office. The truck was partially loaded with soil, which spilled into the ditch line.

Allen was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Vehicle recovery crews remained on scene until early Monday afternoon attempting to remove the truck. State Road 56 was closed until the truck was removed.

Indiana State Police were assisted on scene by the French Lick Police and Fire Departments, Orange County Coroner, Orange County Rural Fire Department, and IU Health EMS.
