Wesley P. Voelkel, 88, Dubois

Wesley P. Voelkel, 88, Dubois, passed away at 7:04 a.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016, in Brookside Village Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born at Dubois, Indiana on December 30, 1927 to John and Goldie (Comstock) Voelkel. He married Doris Blessinger on November 16, 1957 in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois.
Wesley served in the US Army in Korea as a tank operator and worked at the Indiana Cabinet Company at Dubois for 30 years and retired from Kimball International after 12 years. He is a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois. And American Legion Post #147. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading his bible.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Voelkel; three daughters, Carla Durcholz of Huntingburg, Sharon Brames of Nokomis, Fla. and Donna Haase and husband Michael of Jasper; six grandchildren, Daniel Durcholz and wife Emily, Nicole Durcholz, Tyler Brames, Ryan Brames, Kevin Hasse and wife Maria and Eric Haase; two great-grandchildren, Traycen and Carlie Haase; three sisters, Faye Rhienhart of Bowling Green, Ind., Wilma Hall of Dubois and Ella Himsel of Dubois.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, John Ray Voelkel, Stanley Voelkel and Clarence Voelkel who died in infancy. One sister, Gladys Ferrell.
Funeral services for Wesley Voelkel will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois with burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. The Rev. John Sterrett will officiate. American Legion Post # 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ or to a favorite charity.
